Public Disclosure Statement

The Professional University Dr. Carlos J. Borrero Rios was granted initial accreditation effective October 12, 2022. The program was found in compliance with the Standards for Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs – Practice Doctorate. Given this action, the program will be scheduled for its next consideration of continued accreditation 5 years following the start of the program’s first class of students. The COA may change this to an earlier time as a result of new or additional information, changes in the activities of the program, or changes needed in the accreditation review schedule.

Notice Regarding Program Accreditation and Professional Certification

The Professional University Dr. Carlos J. Borrero Ríos maintains both ACEN-accredited nursing programs and a COA-accredited nurse anesthesia doctoral program. Accreditation applies only to the specific programs identified by each accrediting agency.

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredits the University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) programs. ACEN accreditation does not apply to the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program.

The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) accredits the University's Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program. COA accreditation does NOT apply to the BSN, MSN, or MSA programs.

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations in Puerto Rico, graduates of the Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) program may pursue licensure as nurse anesthetists in Puerto Rico, subject to all requirements established by the appropriate regulatory authorities.

Graduates seeking eligibility for the National Certification Examination (NCE) administered through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) must successfully complete a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). At this institution, the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) is the COA-accredited nurse anesthesia program associated with eligibility for the NCE, subject to all applicable accreditation, graduation, and certification requirements.
