Program Description:

The Teacher Certification Program aims to address the need for certified teachers in Nursing Educational Programs to teach in public schools. The Puerto Rico Department of Education certifies candidates following the regulation established in 2022.  

The Teacher Certification Regulation Number 9375, of the Puerto Rico Department of Education of April 28, 2022, establishes the academic and professional preparation requirements that candidates must meet and accredit to practice in this and other categories of teaching staff position, according to the Law. According to this Regulation, applicants can use the traditional route or the alternative route to obtain a regular teaching staff certificate. This proposal offers certification applicants the alternative certification route. 

The Teacher Certification Program consists of 27 credits offered in virtual modality of studies distributed in five trimesters using synchronic and asynchronies interactions with students. Students will take 3 or 6 six credits per trimester, completing the program in five trimesters.

Program Objectives:

  1. Develop professionals prepared to adapt their practices to the needs and interests of students from diverse social groups and with exceptionalities.  
  2. Instruct professionals in theories and foundations of education and their relationship with their daily practices.  
  3. Develop in our students and future teachers the mastery in teaching methodologies and learning approaches scientifically proved.  
  4. Prepare teachers who use updated technological tools and who promote student learning, involvement and participation.
  5. Develop professionals with a life learning attitude.
